The Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company has been serving Connoquenessing Borough, Connoquenessing Township and surrounding communities since 1935. This protection covers 27 square miles of first due fire district. On average our 100% volunteer membership donates thousands of hours annually to our community by responding to 9-1-1 emergency calls for assistance, increasing our proficiency with weekly in-house training, outside state certified trainings, coordinating fundraisers, and attending community outreach programs. We are fortunate to have a strong membership, willing to give back to their community.
Donations are critical in maintaining not only the safety of our firefighters, but the safety of our community while continuing the quick response for assistance you have come to expect. As operational costs continue to rise, we rely heavily on partnerships with you and our fellow members of the community to fund the day-to-day expenses in operating your volunteer fire company. 100 percent of proceeds from our community partnerships go directly to support our mission by maintaining firefighting vehicles, personal protective equipment (PPE), and funding enhanced training opportunities for our volunteer firefighters.
As you may or may not know, because of size constraints our current fire station built in the late 1800’s will no longer economically or operationally support our needs or the growing community’s needs. The apparatus bays are too small to house a modern fire engine, and there are not enough bays to house the various firefighting apparatus and equipment we currently utilize. Our goal within the next 3 years is to have a new modern and energy efficient fire station that will provide an emergency services solution now and for the future. The property at the end of Main Street was purchased by the CVFC nearly 50 years ago with an expectation of one day building a new fire station. With your continued help and partnership, we are finally beginning to make this goal into a reality!
Engine 12, our first out unit for fire suppression is approaching 29 years of service. In 1994, the new purchase price of Engine 12 was $180,000. Today, the cost to replace Engine 12 with a basic new fire engine customized to fit in our current station is $800,000. Along with a new fire station, we intend to purchase a late model fire engine. Without the size constraints of our current building, we would then have the option of purchasing a quality state of the art used fire engine, in turn saving HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars on a replacement fire engine. Our intent is to keep and maintain our current fire engine as a backup fire suppression unit which we have never had the luxury of having. By following this model, our fire district ISO rating will continue to decrease which in turn will ultimately reduce the cost of fire insurance premiums for homeowners and businesses with-in our first due fire district, possibly by hundreds of dollars each.
It is with these things in mind that we ask you, our community partners, for help. Please be generous with a donation to help us continue to provide professional Emergency Services to you.
